What's a dream? When we were children, we would dream all the time! We wanted to pretend that we lived in castles and ruled the world! Some of us would dream that we had a fancy car or nice clothes. I remember when I was little, I always dreamed of being able to go buy ice cream whenever I wanted. HaHa!Such a simple dream back then speaks volumes to me know that I'm an adult. Being able to buy ice cream was a treat in my family. We weren't "dirt floor poor," but we certainly weren't on the "weekend shopping spree" rung of the economic ladder either. I like to say we were in an uncomfortably comfortable middle. That being said, my parents ALWAYS made sure my younger brother and I had what we needed and most times a few things we wanted. So my dream is to be financially secure. Sounds simple right!? Those two words, make up what I want to achieve in my life. Money doesn't buy you happiness, but it sure does allow you to make the choices you need to be happy.
Also, I have about 75 lbs of unwanted "me" hanging around. It's collected over the last 6 years and it's time I evicted it!
Well now I've got somewhere to start. I have 2 "WHYs."
What is a WHY? A "why" is as simple as my toddler asking me 400 times "Why?" He is able to get to the root of any interest he has just by saying those three little letters. When you dive into your dream, keep asking yourself "Why?" until you have gotten to the root of why you want to accomplish your dream. This should take more than 3 minutes and could even make you cry. Really dig deep inside yourself emotionally to find out your "Why." Now you take a few minutes and figure out your "why." I'll wait...
Phew! That was hard to do! *sniff sniff* Taking that dream of wanting to be Financially Secure down to realizing that I have a lot of hurt in my past from when we got married and had our daughter just 4 months later to being a family of 4 just 6 years later. I want financial security for my family and I so that we can let go of the embarrassment we have had from having to ask for help. That makes me sad, mad, and determined!

Also, I want to travel. Being financially secure in my mind is not having to choose to visit family or escape the strongholds of our daily lives to go on an adventure! Visiting family will ALWAYS take priority when we plan our vacations, but I want us to be able to take a second or even third vacation each year! That sounds like heaven to me! I'll post my bucket list later. It's getting pretty long!
Finally, this weight issue is not only physically but emotionally weighing me down. I am not the happy outspoken person I used to be. I don't smile all the time anymore and I am very self conscious of my appearance. With various health issues that run through my family, it's time to stop talking and start moving! Even my husband has felt his own weight gain in the last few years and it's taking a toll on him as well. FINALLY! He and I are motivated for the same thing! Health and Fitness! Friends, you have no idea how happy it makes me that he wants to workout with me!
What's a goal? To me, a goal is taking that dream and adding a deadline to it! *break out the scary soundtrack* A deadline! That word scares me and it might scare you too! THAT IS TOTALLY OK! Adding a deadline to your "why" turns a childhood dream into an adult goal! That is a huge step toward achieving your own success!!
What are my goals? I broke them down because you can only eat an elephant sized goal one way....one bite at a time.Keep checking back to see how my progress is going! I can't wait for my first day of the next 30 days to begin tomorrow!!
I'd love to hear your feedback about your style of goal setting! What keeps you motivated to stick to a goal you have a set for yourself? How do you break yourself free from the chains of procrastination? Comment below! I'd love to hear from you!! #BuildingAnOvercomer
